Love the time you spend to answer everyones questions keep up the great work it's really positive stuff.

I'm a 23 y/o forward playing 1st grade subbies in sydney. just kick started my own off season training in preparation for sydney club training starting up in Nov. I've decided to jump into club rugby in preparation for a following season overseas. I understand you've played in quite a few places and are now in the USA. what I want to know is how I should go about organising this with an overseas club. I don't intend to be making big dollars but I understand a club in the US like NYAC may assist with housing and a job and the lower grades in france/england could provide housing or even a minimal income depending on your ability. I'm just interested in spending time in other countries playing the game I love (at the best level I can) and im not too worried about doing other side jobs if necessary although countries like the USA do prove to be difficult visa wise for an aussie to just travel over there and sign up to any old club on a visitors pass.

OK my old Club the Back Bay Sharks really need a good #10 and props. If you or any of your mates are interested let me know. We can't garantee a subsidised air fare but it is something they will consider. Somewhere to stay (couch  or spare room) work is on the table enough for booze and basics.

Just keep it simple. Look at the area / city / town you want to visit and then Google for a rugby club there.

In the USA at least clubs are very receptive. Just make sure to decide what you need as a minimum and get very clear answers on what you will get. If a club can offer a lot great, if not you need to weigh up the location and if the area is worth sacrificing for.

Another thing to do is ask the club if they have an Aussie contact that they have had over in the past who would give them a good report. They will check up on you and your Rugby ability and attitude by calling your club and coach so you need to do the same kind of home work.

I played for the Back Bay Sharks in Newport Beach which has a few Aussies in the team and they have had plenty of Aussies and Kiwis over the years. A recent arrival from Aussie couldn't beleive the field we play on - right on the beach in Newport, see it to beleive it - www.backbayrfc.com

I play for the OC Bucks now which is 2 levels down in 3rd division. It matches my old fart rugby levels now.

I played in Aspen Colorado which is well funded and a great town to be in.

But in the usa I would plan to take enouch cash for your own booze and food for at least 2 months. You will usually get at least a laboring job or better that might pay you $400 a week give or take. I would be surprised if you couldn't find a club who can't at least find you a place to stay for free.

If you feel you can bring real skill and coaching ability you could get a flight paid for or at least sponsered.

These are the minimums, ask for more and give real reasons why you are worth it and what value you will bring and you could get more. Research the club on line and try to talk to past players then negotiate what you think the club can afford. Times are tough but it is better to respectfully ask for more then come down.
