Question
hi,
i am a 15 year old irish rugby lover. i am 6ft1 and just under 16 stone i play blind side flanker for my school and club. i love nothing more then going training after school or having a match against other schools or clubs. my question for you is, since you are an expierienced forward id like to know what you think it takes to become a professional rugby player (forward) in the modern game? i have been told that i have tallent and that i am good at what i do on a rugby pitch and that i have a future in the sport but i would like to hear another oppinion on what it actually takes to become a professional rugby player in the modern game. i appreciate you taking time to read my question and am looking forward to hearing your reply.
thanks,
eoghan
Answer
Here is the answer, to be blunt Eoghan:
It doesn't matter what I say or anyone else for that matter. Either you believe you can make it or you don't. Set your goals. Train smart and hard. Do all the "do's" that are required to go pro physically and with your skills. Do these things but no matter what: you need to get clear in your mind what it is you want to achieve.
Get clear first. Get very clear. Fuzzy goals equals fuzzy results. Once you are clear educate yourself in every way. Ask a lot of questions and be a sponge for knowledge in al aspects of the game even contracts.
Never, never give up and never stop learning. Any set back is just a learning experience. Play to your strengths and work on your weaknesses.
Be focussed, present and "on purpose." Sit down and write your goals down and set the dates you want to achieve them. Then write down al the points you need to hit to achieve your goals. Be specific on what is needed and by when. This is your plan stick to it but be open to adjusting it.
Good luck.
