being a packleader

Question
I play at under 16 level in Scotland as a backrow player. I have recently moved house and have started a playing with a new club. My new coach has decided to make me the 'packleader'/captain of the forwards. I am a loud player who would not tell anyone to do anything that I would not do myself, so I have been informed. I would like to know what exactly it is that players are looking for from their 'packleader', is it just shouting at them and keeping them motivated and being a very intense player, or is there more to it than that? I would like the opinion of an experienced forward of what they would looking for from their leader.
Answer
Hi Tom,
Each person is different and so is each Captain. Your coach feels your style and personality would be a good fit as captain. Congratulations.
So be yourself, lead by example and lift your game. If you do say something make it be on the positive even if the team is getting thrashed. If a team mate makes a mistake just help him up and remind him of his ability to make it up in the next play.
Teams look to Captains to lift their spirits. If spirits are high let it be, just play hard and feed of it. It is when spirits are down that a good captain steps up. Be present and focussed on the needs of your players and the team as a whole and you will do great.
Be yourself.
