Question
Hey,
I'm 16 years old and 5'10 and weigh in at about 13 stone, when having an x-ray the doctors said that i still had quite a bit of growing to do. I play for a mens club in the Philippines, i have been recently chosen into the national u20's squad and have started the past few games at blindside flanker. I don't have a set position, i'm reckoned to be something of a utility forward, strong enough to prop, decent enough to hook and throw and i'm a manic tackler. But i feel like i don't have like a set goals or targets? Is there any position/skills you recommed that i should focus on?
Thanks
Answer
Hi Dan,
Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. At 16 you should expect more growing as your doctors say until you are about 20. With this in mind expect to change position 2 or 3 times. If you look at some professional players they play one position for their club and another for their country.
My point is don't get too hung up on it for now. Talk with your coaches to get an idea of the best position for the team's needs to assure the most game time) but ultimatly play the position that you truely like the most. Follow your gut instinct on this don't over think it.
