Question
Hi, well basically my problem is that i dont have a set position. Im 16, 5'10 and about 12 and half stone. Ive been played prop, flanker and wing so far for school but im planing to play for my local team, but dont really have a set position and was wondering if you could help. Im the quickest in my year, and quite strong, i also have quite a good tackle, however my ball control and passing leaves a little to be desired. Could you possibly suggest a position for me?
Thanks for the help, Jack
Answer
Hello Jack, sorry for the time taken to get back to you.
The only time I get into suggesting positions is with a player I have worked with in person. I have trained with the player seen them play in person. There are many factors that I need to see in person to advise.
The key one I start with any time is to make sure the player really wants to play the position he is in. No point in working with a player who is a perfect shape and ability for prop if he doesn't want to play that position. I will work to convince a player of their potential or give them more confidence in their ability or I will move them into a different position.
Ultimately it come down to the player. If a player REALLY want to be in a position that will over come many short comings over a better player who's heart and head isn't in it.
So go with your gut and play the position that lights your fire, that will put you ahead of the other guy every time.
Good luck.
