Question
Hi I'm 16 years old and I've recently been interested in playing rugby  as a winger for the lower grades. I'm 170 cm in height and i am fast when reach full pace but i have a slow start, i have a real head for the game and i understand the rules, but I'm afraid I might get killed on the pitch because I'm not that muscular or bulky in size.  

Could you give me some advice on this.

Hello Nigel,

I would select a position you personally prefer most. If you like wing stick with it. Being 16 you still have growing to do and most people change positions 2 or 3 times by the time they are 21. Your goal is to keep learning the game, work on ball and kicking skills and enjoy yourself.

As for off-mark-pace Google for sprint drills or pliometrics to get ideas of drills you can do to get faster of the line. Here is an example of the kind of site:
