Scrum Half - Communication

Question
Hey,
I've been playing scrum half for 4 years and am now 16. I've come to learn that communication is essential for a scrumhalf and I have gotten better but am still unsure of the right things to say. As of now I usually stick to "stay with him" (for a line break), "Counter", "Lost, out flat", "ruck over, win it", "help! win it", "more in/out too many". What other sorts of phrases helped you out the most as a forward and what should I be saying? I also try to alert the scrum on any back row scrum plays, alert them on 8 man picks, ball in and ball out because they can't see the play is this good? I am talking most of the game but I'm told this is supposed to happen? I try to keep my head up and look for gaps in the defense but I find I'm too busy talking to the forwards and digging the ball out of rucks to do this often. Any advice on that?
Thanks in advance, appreciate the help.
Answer
Hi Rob, it sounds like you are doing all the right things. You are going to have to make sure the ball is won in a maul or ruck before to can start looking to far ahead. Just learn to slow the ball down when yo uneed to. If the ball is won in the ruck or maul don't rush at the moment you know the ball is yours look to the back line and defense take that time them to assess the situation
A good scrummy is a talker be confident in that sounds like you are talking well. don't go quiet.
