Rugby Pre Season

Question
Hi,

Sounds like you have had a pretty good rugby career.
I am a 17 year old flyhalf/fullback who next season will be playing in National Divison 2 in England.

I am around 6'3 and about 13.3 stone. I was wondering if you give me any suggestions or training examples that professionals would use to condition themselves. I have a detailed gym plan but have seen that the pro's train in the fternoon with conditioning for rugby and strength. I would love to see a example conditioning session that they use to become powerful and match fit.

Hopefully you can help me.

Answer
Oliver,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

I use the off season for this:

First: recovery. Make sure any injuries or niggles are cleared up, usine your doctor, physio etc

2nd: Strength. Read this article well: http://www.mensjournal.com/trainingprogram

3rd: closer to the season start incorporating cardio for base fitness (not too much) then get into speed and power work closer.

Note: I am not a trainer so you are already doing the right thing by using one. Consult your clubs high performance officer if it has on. If it doesn't try reaching out to the professional level club you want to play for for advice.
