Question
Hi i'm George,i live in england and i play rugby and i love it, i'm an u14, i want to make it proffesional but i have a problem. In u13 i played for a club for 2 seasons and for one of them i was captain(u13's) i have now moved club for various different reasons, i played flanker (open or blind) and i am good at it, im 8st 1Lbs and im 5ft 6 (im 13) i am very athletic i am a good long distance runner (1500m 5:01) and a average sprinter(100m 15.09s, 200m 31s) i have my county trials coming up this november and i REALLY want to get in and play flanker, i am a very good tackler i rarely miss tackles, but i feel if i was a little bit bigger and i had a much better explosive power i would be a much more confident player, i was wondering if you could help me with some strength and explosive power drills that will make me a bit bigger and more explosive, i have good strength i am also a boxer which i do to build my strenth, it helps but i was wondering if you had anything rugby specific..? Many Thanks
George
Answer
Hi George, I am not really a conditioning expert so I point question like thie to the "Google" search function. That said there is no easy answer: get a professional trainer or at least join a good quality gym.
Work on strength first. Once you hit your max strength then start on bulk. Then work in power, speed and endurance.
All those things require a short, mid and long term plan that you work with a trainer on constantly.
