moving my position
Question
Hey. well I am playing in the position of a flanker (blindside). In the beginning our couch put me in the blinside. I wondered why he didn't put me in the openside. Does it really mathers? But later on he wanted to put me in the second row to play and I sed no. He asked why and I answered that I dont like that pos. and like to have space around me when im moving. What do you think about that. Do he takes me as a weaker player or what? First the blindside and then the second row. Must'v I tooked that pos.? I am the 3th tallest in the team and my speed is more or like all the others. I would apreciate your answer and what do you think what he thinks of me and is it okay not to took it seriously? Thanks
Answer
Hi Kobus,
Sorry to hear you are disappointed at your coach's decisions. It appears there could be a difference in speed. Typically the blind side is a little slower than the open side. The move to lock may reflect a slight speed advantage that your replacement may have. Rather than loose a good fast player your coach has put you at lock. What has happened to the other lock you have replaced - is he on the bench or swapping with you? If he is on the bench then I suggest take lock and enjoy your rugby. If you guys are swapping then I suggest talking with your coach about what you can do to earn your position back. Ask for measurable things you can do to get back to flanker.
I am really guessing here mate so I suggest a calm discussion with your coach. Talk to him after training or at a time when he has plenty of time to be free to talk.
Either way if you are on the starting line up for a game it still beats being dropped altogether. The move could be for the greater good of the team, take a step back and look at the big picture again to see where you fit.
Let me know how it goes.
