Am I too old to go pro?

Question
Hi Nick, I've just moved to a new area and recently (3 months at most) taken up rugby and love it. I'm 6'6 maybe 6'7 and 17stone and I play lock. I've started in my local 2nd team but I'm already pushing for a 1st team spot with a couple of run outs for them. Each game I'm learning something new and I'm always pestering the old heads for advice .My question is if I take this seriously, is there a realistic chance of making a good standard of rugby, even though I've just started at 19? Also just wanted to say this is a brilliant forum, from all the threads ive read I've been very impressed by all the answers you guys give. As an added thought, do you have access to any useful threads that would be helpful to my position, with regards to technique and fitness? Thanks a lot. James.

Answer
Hi James

My appologies for the delay in getting abck to you.

You are fine to try an go pro. A good model for you is Ali Williams of the New Zealand All Blacks he didn't play rugby until his final year of scholl after having played field hockey all his life.

A good lock usually isn't hitting his prime until his late 20's anyway.

There are some great web sites about fitness if you Google "Plyometrics" but I always suggest a professional trainer or athletics coach to work with a play in person and one - on - one.
