Answer
G'day Rich.
I can't pick the position for you mate as with rugby it is not a simple issue to put someone in the correct position.
I suggest you learn all you can about the game in theory and also put yourself into the hands of a good coach/team.
You may find that you may still play many positions in your first season as the coach will experiment with your talents as they are exposed on the field of play.
Look up a local club or team and ask about training and turn up. They should take care of you. Rugby is very fraternal and welcomes all comers.
A good start is "Rugby for Dummies" as well as reading over the questions I have answered in the past. Try to see as much rugby as you can on TV or the Internet and if your club is not in season right now ask if they play touch rugby on a regular basis. This non-contact alternative is a great way to ease into the game.
