agents
Question
QUESTION: hey my name is cory we have talked before, ive heard you mention that to get into ahl tryouts you need an agent. How would i go about hiring an a good one? Also what do you think of the pro free agent camp at this site http://www.ihchockey.com/leagues/custom_page.cfm?leagueID=13721&clientID=4226&pa. Will that really get me into an ahl tryout?
thanks a bunch
ANSWER: Hi Cory!
Great find!
While it may not get you INTO the AHL ... it will allow you to be EXPOSED to the guys who make the choices!! It's a PRO camp so you will at least be seen. Of course it will be up to you to perform consistently!
Know that there are alot of players vying for few spots... so the competition is usually pretty fierce. Show up to play hard - and have alot of FUN while doing it!
When you got to that camp - there will most likely be agents there. Interview them just like you would interview an employee. You must be able to TRUST him and he should have a fair amount of experience. CHECK OUT HIS OTHER CLIENTS TOO - no less than 3!!
Hope this helps!
Good luck,
Martial

QUESTION: thanks martial i appreciate it, now im 18 right now with no track record really so would my best bet be to just train and practice till im 20 then go to this camp? ALso you might not now this but do you think in a camp like this they would have some off ice evaluations? The reason i ask is because that is where i can really do some damage.
ANSWER: Actually your best bet would be to GET A TRACK RECORD... play some junior hockey. Get on ANY team in ANY league at ANY level. get a record going. You can be a big hero in a lower league or stand out in higher ones... just get some stats, some coaches referals, some experience. Without any of that - it will be a real tuff run. As for off ice evaluations - there may be some - but it won't carry much value at this stage. This will mean more at the actual team training camps you could be invited to.

QUESTION: ok i understand, getting a track record will be hard since i dont have the money to play on junior teams. Right now all im doing is playing is really good mens league teams but thats it. Will it really matter in the camp though if i have a track record if im standing out in front of everyone?
Answer
For that particular camp no - and you could actually make a "good story"!! One never really knows for sure.
I know these guys like to look at "paper" stuff too... it may take you a little longer to PROVE yourself ... but if you consistently perform at the high levels - you should be OK!
Best of luck to ya!
