Goalie training
Question
QUESTION: How can I improve my hand eye coordination as part of goalie training? Also, what are some drills I can do that does not involve actually being on the ice? I can't get to a rink all the time so I would like to do some drills at my house

Answer
Hi Ben
Well first off I ask people, did you ever play baseball? Do you consider yourself a good catcher? My back-up in college had a terrible glove (never played baseball or softball) so she use to practice catching all the time. On the other hand (no pun intended) my blocker sucked! Anyway practice throwing pucks and balls around and catching them w/ your hockey catcher. Use a racquetball and racquet if you have one and put your glove on and whack the ball around and catch it. For the blocker you can kind of do a paddle ball type thing w/ a ball and blocker just keeping the ball up. For hand eye use some superballs and bounce them around. Also juggling is good. Try catching equally with both hands. You can also try dropping a ball from height and staring straight ahead and using only your side-view to see it. Hope some of this is helpful.
Oh one more thing, if you have a big mirror you can do some imaging in the mirror too...might want to do this in your room LOL! Just remembered too, if someone could hit some tennis balls at you w/ a racquet you could use your gloves.
