Summer Camps
Question
I've been playing house for 7 years, and am now playing Bantam Tier II Mixed (I'd be a Bantam Major). I've decided to boost my game, and get serious, and have elected a mixed team to get me into travel. My coach told me that I should go to a power skating clinic over the summer, because speed is my only downfall. I'm 5'7" 190 lbs in 8th grade, and can bench 180. I play football, hockey, and lacrosse, and am a big guy. I know losing some excess weight could be a help, but what camps could help me as far as the specifics of the way to skate, and improve speed. Like the parts that are important to skating, besides how fast you can run (your stride).
Answer
Hi Matt...
You can look up any hockey school camp that focuses on POWER SKATING. Like Laura Stamm or Dr. Shmushkin. Plus you can join a local training center and ask about doing plyometrics or "acceleration" exercises... These will increase explosiveness for acceleration as well as foot speed for agility and reaction time. (Plus reduce your chances for injuries!!).
You can google those terms and it will tell you lots about them as well!
Hope this helps!
