Question
Hockey Goal Post
Dear Martial
I would like to know the rules for considering a Hockey Goal.
1. In the ATTACHED image of Hockey Goal Post, if the Ball touches the net within the Goal Post, is it considered as a Goal ?.
I am sure the answer is Yes.
2. In the ATTACHED image of Hockey Goal Post, if the Ball doesn't touches the net within the Goal Post, but the Ball lies in the rectangular blue area highlighted is it considered as a Goal ?.
3. In the ATTACHED image of Hockey Goal Post, if the Ball doesn't touches the net within the Goal Post, but the Ball touches the outside line of the rectangular blue area highlighted i.e the line where the goalkeeper is standing is it considered as a Goal ?.
The second and third case is possible because the Goalkeeper may not be able to hold the ball by his hockey stick or gloves and the ball slips from his hand or hockey stick, doesn't touch the goal post net but the ball either touches the outside line or lies within the blue rectangular area.
Thanks & Regards,

AnswerHello Prashant!!
Great questions. Thank you for taking the time to do this!
You are correct the answer is YES for #1.
The answer would be NO for #2... as the rule (at least for ice hockey) is the puck (or ball) must FULLY cross the goal line to be a goal... being ON THE LINE is not considered a goal!
And again on #3... it would NOT be a goal unless it FULLY CROSSES even the "imaginary line" from the bottom to the top. i.e. if a goalie catches the puck (or ball) in the air but his hand with the puck crosses this line - than THAT would be a goal!
Bottom line the puck (ball) must CROSS in its entirety the goal line!
Make sense?
Hope this helps!
Good luck! THANK YOU!
