Defensive help
Question
I'm a First year Defensive Head Coach for Jr. Pee Wee Football here in California (10-11 y/o), although I've been coaching for 3 years. We have a rule where every child must play 8 plays a game. The problem is we have a limited amount of talent (returning players), so we put are talent at ends and linebacker and hope for the best. At times this leaves us vunerable outside and up the middle when our talent can't make the play. What Defense would you suggest we run the majority of the time? Is my positioning of my few talented players (6 kids) correct? Please take into account I need to rotate approx. 11 kids into the remaining 5 spots(during short games). Please know that I realize these are children and I REALLY try to bring the inexperienced kids along with drills, coaching, etc. But theres a huge drop off in talent between the 2 groups (and some are strictly out there because Mom & Dad, and have no desire to play or get better). Thanks for any help you can give me. Also, any plays, drills, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
THANKS FOR THE QUESTION, AND SORRY I TOOK SO LONG TO GET BACK. THE RUNNING JOKE WHERE I AM FROM IS THAT IF A KID OR TWO HASN'T GOTTEN IN THE GAME, THAN PUT HIM AT DOWN TACKLE. (OUR DEFENSIVE COACHES LOVE THIS) REASON BEING THAT AT THE LEVEL, YOU CAN JUST TELL THE KID TO GO BALLS OUT AND GRAB LEGS, ETC. SO THAT IS MY SUGGESTION REGARDING THOSE PLAYERS.
ALSO, I THINK YOU HAVE THE RIGHT IDEA AS TO WHERE YOUR BEST ATHLETES GO. I WOULD BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO GIVE YOU SOME DRILLS, JUST LET ME NO SPECIFICS. THANKS FOR THE QUESTION........BRIAN
