High School Football letdown!!
Question
My son has played football since 7th grade.
He is a senior now. this is with the school district. Most of the
years he would get playing time, not ever a starter but playing time. 11th
grade he got no playing time, stayed on the sidelines, and was promised
in his senior year, he would play. Well game 2 just came around last
week and it was a blow out, we won, and he didn't get in the game until
6 minutes left. It was kind of an insult to him. I told him to talk
to the coach and see what this year is going to be like with playing.
He did, and the couch said he couldn't garuntee him any playing time.
This crushed him and, he decieded not to play anymore. He is very upset, because all he wanted
to do is play football, and not stand on the sidelines another year. I
feel terrible for him, but I am behind him on this his decscion. I don't understand these coaches, Your suppose to keep kids off the street...
Answer
Dear Mr. Jan,
I don't understand these coaches anymore than you do. Some coaches forget that it is a game and that it is for the kids. They let their egos get in the way of their common sense.
All that I can say is, do not give up on Football. Workout, go to the gym, do some running, and lift some weights. There is always college. Your son will not be the first student who did not start in high school and became a star in college and the N.F.L.. Good Luck!
