Where do I find it.

Louis, I coach my 8 year old son and 10 year old daughter in 8 man tackle football, The team is doing great but my desire to help them get the edge is frustrated by lack of information in relation to the 8 man formations. I have read several books and the information is transferable but I was hoping you could lead me in the direction of specific 8 man info. Also, what books or videos do you recommend that I read and view to help me be a better coach and that would cover the scouting topic.

Dear Keith,
Welcome to our club. I am always happy to meet a new coach. You are right, there is far too little written on 8-man football. Maybe someday you will write a book about the subject and help another, new, coach get started. However, today is your day and there are a few things you need to understand on the road to becoming a coach. Reading a book or screening a video is not going to make you a coach. If you want to become a good coach, you are going to have to pay the price, like the rest of us. Coaching is not easy and it takes time to develop as a coach. You have to watch other teams playing (in games that your kids are not participants) in order to learn from other coaches. Talk to the other coaches, and get their in put. Ask questions, you will find that most coaches are happy to talk about their sport. Books and videos help, but you have to do more if you want to be a good coach.

Scouting made easy.

There are three simple rules to scouting.

1.If your opponent likes to pass, to which player, and what pattern does he like to run? STOP HIM!
2.If your opponent likes to run, what is his favorite run play, and who is his favorite runner? STOP HIM!
3.Have one of the coaches scout your own team during each game. This tactic will enlighten you into what your, coming, opponent will be up-to next week. Get ready for he is going, to try to STOP YOU!
