Coaching Jobs & Coaching Questions
Question
Hello Louis!
My name is Preston, and I am a member of the US Air Force stationed in the UK. For a college course, I am required to ask a few questions from a career field expert in our future career. I am an assistant coach for the high school team, and I interviewed our head coach, but I would like a second set of answers for diversity.
Could you please answer the following questions on coaching...
1. Approximately how many hours a week do you spend planning, preparing, and coaching for the weekly game?
2. How sucessful do you need to be to advance to the NCAA ranks from High School ball?
3. Are there days when you get frustrated with the play of your players and just want to quit?
4. What made you want to be a football coach?
5. How many years do most coaches spend as assistants before getting promoted to a head coaching position?
Thank You for your time!
Preston Perkins
Answer
Dear Mister Preston Perkins,
1. Approximately how many hours a week do you spend planning, preparing, and coaching for the weekly game? About 16 hours (games are on Fridays, review films on Saturdays and Sundays)
2. How sucessful do you need to be to advance to the NCAA ranks from
High School ball? (sometimes it's who you know not what you know, I know coaches with almost perfect records being turned down while coaches with little or no experience getting the job)
3. Are there days when you get frustrated with the play of your players
and just want to quit? There are days when I get frustrated with the players but I never want to quit.
4. What made you want to be a football coach? My way of staying close to the game (I was a player first).
5. How many years do most coaches spend as assistants before getting
promoted to a head coaching position? It took me one season, I was not ready for the job but I got it anyway
