spearing
Question
I have a son and a nephew that play little league football, and at their last game an opposing player hit my nephew with his helmet (my nephew did not have the ball at the time) is this what they call spearing? If not, can you explain what spearing is so I can be better informed. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. (The league uses CIF rules)
Answer
Dear L'Dawn,
Spearing is when a player leads with his helmet when trying to make a tackle or a block. In fact, this is using your helmet as a weapon. It can lead to, back, head, and spinal cord injuries. This tactic is not permitted by C.I.F. rules.
The N.F.L. has a video that takes you step by step into the football world called;
"How to Watch Pro Football/Movie"
it is made for people that have never watch football before. It takes you step by step into the game of football. It does not cost very much. I think you can find it for under $10.00. You will save yourself a lot of headaches if you watch this video.
