look im a reciever/end i switched over from running back halfway throug the season. i have ok hands and average speed. i want to no haw to get faster and cut faster on my routes we usually play against a cover 3 so how do i get by that defender faster
Answer
Dear Nick,
Eveybody runs a cover 3 on the high school level. That is the only coverage some teams will run all season. If you want to beat a cover 3 defense, you must run what I call a skinny post pattern.
I skinny post is ran much like the regular post, except for the angle after the break. When you run a regular post you run up field for about 10-yards and then break inside at a 45-degree angle towards the free safety. When you run a skinny post, you run up field for about 10-yards and break inside at a 45-degree angle. When you see the free safety moving into possition (to stop the post pattern) you break off the route, turn upfield and split the defense. You run between the free safety and the cornerback. try it you will like it. Now, about your speed.
I can help you get quicker but not faster.
When you play basketball you do a lot of running back and forth on the basketball court. This helps get you into shape and makes you quicker. The foot movement used to play defense and offense on a basketball team are the same foot work that a football player would use during a game.
When you play handball you do a lot of running back and forth and side to side. These are the same movements used by a the defense and the offense on the football field.
I hope this helps, if not please let me know.
