I want to be in the NFL
Question
Hello Coach
My only experience playing football in a team is in elementary, a flag foot ball team. Recently, my friend and I thought "Some of them are our size... we should join the NFL". Well, I believe I have excellent sports awareness from playing basketball.. but I gave up on that dream. So my question for you is..
How do I work my way up to join the NFL?
I'm planning to transfer next year to a major university when i get my associates so I'll start from playing college ball. Any tips on that?
My last question is.. how to get fit and have what it takes to be a NFL star
Answer
Dear David Kim,
Getting into the N.F.L. is not as easy as it sounds.
There are around 983,600 High School football players in the country.
Of the 983,600 High School Football Players, only 5.8 percent will move on to the NCAA. And only 2 percent of that group, will ever play for a professional team.
I am not telling you to give up. If this is your dream, go for it. What I am telling you is that it will not be easy. If I were you I would take it one step at a time.
I would start by hitting the books as hard as I can. Get the best grades that you can in college. You need to cover all your bases. Then, I would get into the best shape that I can. Next, I would try out for the college's football team and see where that takes me.
After college, if you are not drafted by a professional team, give it your best shot as a walk-on-player. That is all you can do. And hope for the best.
Getting into shape.
There are ways to get ready for football season and have some fun too. The some of the best ways to get into football shape are by playing Basketball and handball.
When you play basketball you do a lot of running back and forth on the basketball court. This helps get you into shape. You also have to play a lot of defense and offense on a basketball team. The foot movement used to play defense and offense on a basketball team are the same foot work that a football player would use during a game.
When you play handball you do a lot of running back and forth and side to side. These are the same movements used by a the defense on the football field.
If you play these two sports during the summer and (stay out of the sun) drink lots of water, get lots of rest, do not over do it, get your sleep, you will be ready for the season. You will be in football shape and your foot work will look great.
I hope this helps, if not please let me know.
Your friend, Coach Louis
