First time playing too soon for QB?
Question
this is my first year playing football. i really enjoyed it and played a key role on the team as receiver. scoring my first TD against the best team in our league. I noticed a lack of a good QB and appraising in our team. Leaving us with out much hope or a leader. My future job is to become an officer in the Marines, and so i would like to practice the ability to lead. I'm working of throwing ability and playing UCAA games and also watching college football on the TV. I can see my part as being a QB would benefit the team. I have the basic abilities of learning by myself and having confidence in learning new things, but i cant get by the question, should i go for it? I'm really getting into football, but i believe i need an educational response. One from you would make me grateful. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Alexander

Thanks for the questopn. Well, it is a difficult question because I do not know too much about your ability to play QB. But if it is a simple question of should you or should you not try for it, assuming you are able to play QB, I would say sure, why not? Playing football, like any other voluntary activity, is done to have fun. Thats it, period. If you feel that playing QB is what will make you happy, and is the experience you need to begin learning about leadership, then you should absolutely try it.
I can say from experience thay being a QB is very tough, and it takes a lot of work to get good at it. But it does teach what you are looking to learn, and if you go through with it, will get you started in becoming a leader.
My only advice is that if you decide to go for it, put 100% effort into becoming the best you can be. DOnt do it if you arent sure it is what you want. After all, playing any position is better for learning leadership than sitting on the sidelines doing nothing. At least that is my opinion.
I do want to say one other thing though. Although playing QB well takes leadership skills, that does not always mean that QBs have those skills. Understand what I mean? Someone who isnt a good leader CAN play QB, they just might not be as successful as someone who does. So take a good look at yourself. Are you someone that others would follow? Or are you someone who might have a problem leading a team, with 10 other players looking to you for guidance? That is very important, and is something you should think about in great depth before deciding. Just like in the Marines, you will be the commanding officer. Up for it?
I hope this helps you out. Your question isnt really a football question as much as it is an opinion on what is best for you and your future. I am always willing to give you my thoughts, and maybe it will assist you in your decision. But it will come down to your thoughts and opinion, which is all that matters in the end. Do what you feel, and gibe it your all. I think you will find that in most cases, you will like your decision.
Best wishes
