-----Question-----
Hey!
I was just wondering whether My body mass, muscle, etc, is ok for being a wide reciever becasue I am asian, and naturally I am pretty skinny. I was born here (In Perth, Australia) and I have been playing basketball for quite a number of years now so I believe that has boosted my height. I am 175cm tall, about 64kg, and my 40 meter dash is around 4.9 on an average day. Oh and I am 15 years and 9 months old. So yeah, I was just wondering if I have enough body mass because 64kg spread out on a 175cm frame results in a skinny upper body! I am guessing most of my weight comes from my legs becasue I continually recieve comments about my big calf muscles. My mates call them "steroid calfs"! (But of course I do not do drugs, and never will)
Before I knew much about football, I thought being a WR would be easy and simple, but after viewing videos and looking up websites, I discovered that WRs are hit very very hard by the defense, and that is why I am asking this question. Hope it isn't too long! xD

Hey guy. Do me a favor. I would love to help you out with this, but honestly, I need a favor. Write me a follow up, and put your body stats into pounds and feet / inches. I am terrible with the metric system, so I am not sure about your size.
In that, keep in mind that like you said, football is a very tough, hard hitting sport, no matter what position you play. WRs get it as bad as anyone, because of how they are unprotected during the process of catching the ball. So right off the bat, I can tell you that no matter how big or small you are, if the contact is not "up you alley", than football will not be a good choice. You will be required to not only catch the ball, and run with it, but block as well.
Hope to hear back from you soon.

Ok, that helps me out a little bit there. Well, height wise you are good. Most WRs fall between 5'8" and 6'2". Obviously there are exceptions, but 5'10" is not bad. 141 lbs is a little on the light side, but also isnt bad. Like I said earlier, if you can gain some muscle size, it will not only protect you from injury better, but it will increase some of your athletic skills, possibly including your 40 yard dash.
On that note, your 40 yard dash time will be very important as a WR. If you are not fast, defenses will have an easy time covering you. 4.9 is about high school linebacker speed, so that is a major disadvantage for you there. Your goal is to make the defense cover you with a defensive back, not a LB. If they can cover you with a LB, it leaves both corners and the safetys to cover other players, which isnt good, especially if you are in a pass oriented offense with multiple WRs.
So in whole, go ahead and try to gain a few quality pounds, while working very hard on getting that 40 time down. Look to get to at least a 4.75 40 time. That should put you in a decent spot. Remember, you are still relatively young, so dont push it too hard and hurt yourself. Being healthy is the most important thing. IF you are hurt, it doesnt matter how fast or strong you are. You will be on the bench. Cant catch balls from there!
Also, one thing you can do right away is work on your hands. No matter your weight or speed, good hands are good hands. Work on catching every ball thrown at you, while running crisp, quality patterns. That ability will get you a spot on any high school team I gurantee it!
Best of luck!
