Where can I find out the average number of safetys scored per year in the nfl?

Thanks for the question.  Well, I will be the first to admit that I am no computer "wiz", and also, not a "stat man".  I really do not follow stats closely, like I do the actual coaching aspects of the sport.  But I did a little research for you and think I can help.

Go to NFL.com...  Get into the "stats" portion of the website.  Go down, and check "defense" and check the entire league.  Then go to find stats.  It will list the teams, and all of their defensive stats, including how many safetys have been recorded.  You can also change years and see other season's listing.  

Just to help out a little, I counted 12 thus far this season.  So there is a good start.

Just a follow up.  According to Aaron Schultz of Footballoutsiders.com, over the past 4 years the NFL has averaged 15 safeties a year.  That is a good site as well. www.footballoutsiders.com.  There is a section where you can ask questions, and they e mail back to you the answer.
