coaching changes
Question
I am currently a varsity assistant coach who possesses over eight years of coaching experience at two different schools. I am currently at a crossroad in my life as to what I should do as far as staying in my current position as special team coordinator, running backs, and defensive backs coach or pursue my dream at (whatever expense) of being a head coach. I should also mention that we recently won the state championship and stand a very good chance of being able to contend for it for years to come. What should I do? I am currently 33 and have never interviewed for a head position before. I have being putting my "own" program together for over a year and know what I would look for in a program.
Answer
Dear Herman,
you are not alone. All assistant coaches dream of being the head coach. I say go for it.
It sounds like you are on the right track. You will never know if you can swim unless you jump in the pool and get your feet wet.
Please let me know if I can be of any help to you.
Your friend, Coach Louis.
