The Fly & Jet Offense
Question
Is the Jet considered the Single Wing and also are the two offenses similar?
Answer
Dear Cliff,
the single wing is when you line-up the slot back or wingback, next to the tight end and, just off the line of scrimmage. He is there to hook the defensive end. When the defensive end lines-up outside, the slot-back or wingback will just block him outside and the tailback will run in side the tackle.
If the defensive end lines up in side the wingback, the wingback will just simply hook the end and the tailback will run out side the tackle. It is a no win assignment for the defensive end. Whatever he does, will be the wrong choice.
The Jet Offense and the Fly Offense are similar. They both have their roots in the old Single Wing Offense. And they both use new formation to get the job done.
