Thanks for writing. Well, I think I can help you here, considering I have coached semi-pro for several years now, and am currently coaching at that level for our team here in Cleveland, Oh. The hard part about answering this for you is that I don't know anything about you, so I cant tell you if it is a bad idea or not. To get a good feel, and to get you a good response, I need you to do me a favor. Write me a follow up with some of your specifics - height, weight, 40 time if possible, any strength info like bench press, squat, etc. Also, and more importantly, I need to know what you are looking to play. I know you said you haven't played before, but I am assuming you have a position in mind. Tell me a little about your skills, strengths, weaknesses, etc.
I would also like to know a little about the team you are looking to join, and the league they are in. Semi-pro means many different things to many people. Some semi-pro leagues are serious and others are much more like rec leagues. So knowing which one you are getting into will help with my response.
Get back to me when you can with this info and we can go over some of the specifics.
Best wishes
