Wide Reciver
Question
Dear Mark Wolpert,
I am a 15 yr old Freshman in Florida high School. I wnat to be able to become a
better widde reciver. My speed is pretty good my best 40 yrd time was 4.6
seconds and i have a great catch rarley do i drop it. I am concerned with my
size though i am only 5'5 120 lbs. and i want to be a better sized reciver. I am
very physical when a ball is thrown my way. I am also concerned on my route
running. Do you think you can give me a work out and or possibly some common
routes they give me in high school. Also can you tell me how much they throw the
football in Freshman football.
Answer
Robbie,
I guess the best answer to your question is this, you are only 15 and have some growing left to do height wise. To get your weight up you just have to spend the time in the weight room and eat a healthy diet. If you work hard with the weights the size will come.
In terms of routes it is hard to steer you in a direction because I dont know what type of offense your school runs. You should speak with your receivers coach and discuss what he wants you to work on. As for how much a freshman team throws that depends on the system and the talent available. Again your coach could let you know what to expect. Keep working hard and success will follow.
