reading defences

i have another question to follow up my other.....i was wondering if u could tell me what passes i shood look for and wat receivers i shood look for in coverages like man, cover 1,2,3,0

Answer
Dear Gordon:
I sent you an E-Mail detailing how to read the secondary so I will not go over this point again. However, I will tell you what pass patterns to use against cover 0, 1,2,3,4, and 5.

Cover 0 pass defense, is when all pass defenders are in man coverage; required when six defenders are rushing or blitzing.

(Any quick passes can score on this coverage because everyone is in man to man coverage. Once the receiver catches the ball it is a foot race to the end zone. However, you will not have much time to pass because the defense is blitzing.)

Cover 1 pass defense, is when all pass defenders, but one, are in man coverage; the one defender not in man coverage is usually a free safety who plays a deep zone in the middle of the field. It is his job to cover the entire deep area; required when five defenders are rushing; also called 揗an Free?or 揗an Under?br>
(Crossing patterns and patterns that run away from the middle of the field, and the safety, usually have big play potential. You can also send two receivers deep and throw to the one the safety does not bite on.

Cover 2 zone pass defense, is when you have two deep safeties that are responsible for the one halves of the field each.

(A well run post pattern will hit for a score)

Cover 3 zone pass defense, is when the field is divided into three deep zones which have the free safety playing the middle of the field and the two corners on each side. Each player plays a 1/3 of the field. Every High School football team in the nation uses this defense.

(You can usually move the football down the field by keeping your passes short to medium. Run someone deep to keep the three deep secondary busy, but only throw short to medium passes.)

Cover 4 zone pass defense, is when the field is divided into four deep zones which are covered by two safeties and two corners. They cover the field from sideline to sideline with each man taking 1/4 of the field.

(Attack this defense the same way you would a 3 deep coverage. Run someone deep to keep the four defenders busy, but only throw short to medium passes.)

Cover 5 is the same as the Nickel Defense. The Nickel Defense is when you take out a linebacker and replace him with a faster defensive back. This packet is used when the defense is expecting a pass on third and long.

(It is better to run against a Nickel Defense than to pass because the defense has replaced one or more of the linebackers with a smaller defensive back. However, if you need to pass, you will know where the holes are in their defense because you watch the game films pervious to the start of each and every competition.

You can also run a no huddle offense to keep the defense from replacing the linebacker with a defensive back. Tell your team mates to be ready to run up to the line of scrimmage after every second down play that way they will not have time to bring someone in from the sidelines.)

I hope you put this information to good use. If you need any more help please let me know and I will do my best to help you in anyway I can.

Your friend, Coach Louis
