Question
hi coach david and im having trouble with my tackles i get somewhat nervous when tackling a fast runningback and i need some pointers on how to get over that because thats one of the reason im not playing as much and the fact that my coach doesnt help much can you help me.
Answer
Thank you for your question, Gerson.
The question here is what SPECIFICALLY results in you being nervous when tackling a fast runningback? Is it a particular team, or person, or part of the game, or when your team is behind (or ahead)? I'd suggest you do some brainstorming (either alone or with someone else to bounce ideas off of) and write it down. Once you start to figure out the who, what, when, where, then the why comes into focus. Then solutions start to present themselves.
Also, start focusing your thinking on the best tackles you've ever made. Do this a lot, and you'll get into the habit and you'll be able to do that during a game. What I'd really like you to do is closed-eyes relaxation, and vividly visualize or imagine those great tackles you made, then transition to the tackles you are GOING to make. Like any other kind of training, the more you practice the better you get.
Good luck and let me know how it goes.
Best regards,
David
