Man on Man/quickness
Question
Hi
I need help with techniques or things I can do to get quicker/faster and things for man on man. My real trouble is when a corner is playing face(manned up) I try to avoid contact but it seems impossible...Can you help me?
Answer
Richard, this is a good question. You must be a receiver that is easily jammed at the line of scrimmage, making it hard to run your route. Tight man can be hard on receivers, but I think I can give you a few tips to beat this press defense. The first tip I can give you is having a proper stance at the line of scrimmage. Your hands should be up, with your fist clinched. Your shoulders and head should be hunched over, so that the corner is looking at your shoulder pads and not your chest. If the corner is allowed to put his hands into your chest, then he most often will have a successful jam on you. (NEVER GIVE HIM YOUR CHEST TO JAM! GIVE HIM ONLY YOUR SHOULDERS TO PUT HIS HANDS ON!) If the corner is able to put his hands into your chess, nock them away with your clinch fists.
Step two is don't dance with him at the line of scrimmage, this takes time, which your qb only has so much of, so you can't afford do this if you want to get the ball. GET VERTICAL or up the field, as quickly as possible! HOPE THAT HELPS SOME GOOD LUCK, and keep working on your stance, firing off the line and getting vertical. I promise you, if you do this well you will have more balls thrown your way. COACH NOEL!
