Workout Routine
Question
I am currently in ninth grade, I am about 6'3 and and 230lbs. I started right guard last year and the varsity coaches are thinking about moving me to tackle. I just finished my spring sport and I plan on going to the weight room, but I don't have a workout routine and my school really doesn't have one. I was wondering if you might have a specialized one for offensive line?
Answer
Jacob it sounds to me that you have great size, to be a good lineman. I don't have a routine to give you but I can suggest what areas to concentrate on. First I would work on your bench press. Figure out what your max bench press is right now. Then set a goal, that you would like to see your bench become before the season starts. (Example if your bench press is 175 right now, then maybe set a goal of 230 by the time the season starts.) Also be sure to do squats at least 3 times a week along with leg press as well. Be sure to set goals for improvement for each one. Those are the most important exercises for a football player, especially lineman.
One more thing, be sure to eat more, and have a higher intake of proteins in your diet. Examples hamburger, chicken, steak, pastas, potatoes, pork, fish, peanut butter and tuna fish. This will help your muscles build quicker. GOOD LUCK COACH NOEL
