8th grade quarterback
Question
QUESTION: my son is 13 almost 14 in 8th grade and has a passion for football, especially as QB. i am sending him to 3 high level qb camps( FBU, CAMP125 and Offense/Defense) this summer to help him get ready for freshman year and compete for the postion. He is working hard on strength and agility training currently running 40 around 5.1. Can throw fairly accurate at about 40-45yds. any recommendations on how i can help him improve at this age? thanks
ANSWER: If you have any hopes of him playing at the collegiate level, I would consider entering him in as many QB camps as you can over the next few years. This will help him learn how to read defenses and coverages. Also this will help his development for his high school years. In addition to these two points this will give him needed exposure to college coaches. GOOD LUCK COACH NOEL!

QUESTION: how should i make it known to his incoming freshman coach about his desire to play qb..some upper classmnan have already put a good word in for him as well as his teammates? what is a good performance benchmark as a freshman ie passing yds, rushing, comp %, etc?
Answer
This varies depending on what type of offense your team is running. So numbers aren't really what I look at in a kid. I look more for desire to play the position, overall attitude and leadership qualities, and of course his physical tools. If he is going to be a freshman next year I would contact the coach and find out what their summer work out schedule is. Tell them that your son is a qb and you would like him to attend summer work outs so that he can get a head start on learning the system. My teams 8th grade qb that will be a 9th grader will be at our teams summer work outs.
