Getting Off the Line
Question
I am a 6' 5", 300 lb defensive and offensive lineman. The thing is, I'm only in eighth grade. On defense everything's perfect, on offense I'm to slow. By the time I'm off the line the little guys are behind me half the time. (a little of an exaggeration (sort of)) What can I do to get faster for this season?
Answer
For starters I would start jumping rope every single day. This will help you with having quicker feet, and help you with endurance. Also I would try and watch your diet. Try to stay away from carbohydrats, and fatty foods. Stay away from fast food and fried foods as well. If you could lose 20 to 25 lbs, along with jumping rope everyday before the season gets here and everyday after practice for at least 20 to 30 minutes you will get quicker. Also one tip for you on offense. If you know you have slow feet, make sure you have quick hands. You need to learn how to get your hands out quickly into the defender. You are going to be stronger than most of your opponents, so use your hands to over power them. This will give your feet a little more time to catch up. GOOD LUCK COACH NOEL!
