offensive line...HELP!!!
Question
QUESTION: i went to our junior high teams football camp, and my coach made me play on the oline, preferably, offensive guard. and we learned pass blocking, it was my first time, and i did ok, but my run blocking is horrible, I've played guard and center for the past two years and i thought i would have an advantage. and wen i run block, the defensive player runs right past me. do you have any tips on how to improve my run and pass blocking, as well as some advice for on both, and also, i am going out for d-end, do you have any tips on that...thanks
ANSWER: You need to learn to be as physical as possible. You need to be mean and over aggresive. When pass or run blocking leverage is the key. Stay low, in football the saying is "the low man wins" Also use your arms to push your opponent. Developing quick feet and quick hands are a must for a lineman. GOOD LUCK COACH NOEL!

QUESTION: thanks for the answer, i was also tried out at center, and like i said i played it before, but the defense that our team is practicing against has a nose gaurd, and the nose gaurd is twice my size. during camp, i snapped the ball and even though he had a half round bag, he knocked me clear over without any effort. im the best snapper on the team, but i seem to get knocked over. can you give me some help on not getting knocked over and possibly pancaking him. and also, what kind of drills can i do to develope quick hands and feet...thanks again
Answer
Thomas if the kid playing nose is much bigger than you, focus on snapping the ball quickly. After snapping the ball use a cut block technique on him. A cut block is diving your head and shoulder into the noses knees. If you do this with all of your heart, speed and quickness he will fall over you. If you do this from time to time it will slow down his rush. Do not use the cut block every time, if you do the noseguard will catch on and be ready for it. The cut block is only used to keep the nose off guard and slow his rush down, also it give him something to think about. Nobody likes their legs taken out from under them. GOOD LUCK COACH NOEL!
