Question
My son is playing pop warner, this is the start of his second year as a 12 yr old Pee Wee. Last year he played OT and really didnt know alot about the plays. This year he is practicing as Tight End and is gettting confused by the formations and plays. I believe they will run a wing T and Double wing T, He understands the formations which are the base for the plays. for example if you had a play that was 182, it would be 100 formation, 8 being the fullback gets the ball and runs thru the 2 hole. Is learning this just repitition and knowing what your job is on each play? Can you also explain how the holes are numbered in The O line. thanks
Answer
Your son does need to understand the playbook. Maybe talking to the coach and having him go over the playbook with you would be a good idea. This way you would be able to work on where he lines up on each series, and learn his blocking assignments for each play.
Holes are important to know for all players on the line because this lets the line know how to block the play. Holes are broke up into right and left. Right holes are 2,4,6,8, 2 hole being between the center and gaurd, the 4 hole being between the guard and tackle and so on. So it is important to know as a tight end if the play is going your way or the opposite. Talk to the coach is my advise. GOOD LUCK COACH NOEL@!
