Can I become an OLB
Question
I'm playing for Lee High-School in Jacksonville,Fl. I'm going to be playing J.V football I wanna become and outside linebacker. I weigh 173-174 lbs I can bar curl like 100lbs and do dumb bells up to 50 lbs. When my dad was timing me on the fourty for fun I ran a 4.6 that might be hard to believe but I did it three diffrent various times and I got the same time. I got the second fastest time in My gym class for the 10 yard shuttle (you start from the first cone you run to the second cone pick up the stick run backto the first cone throw it down then run back to the second cone and repeat) I got 9.01 seconds on It. When we play football for fun at school we cant tackle but I always seeme to tackle at least one person. Would I make a good outsde linebacker and can I get any tips on how to be better. Oh and I can back pedal real well i have good hands. I'm trying to get down to 163lbs so i can get faster. I'm curretly in 8th grade. I did not play footbal for the past two years
Answer
#1......DO NOT LOSE WEIGHT!!!!! What are you thinking? Strength, speed, agility...all will suffer if you lose. Gain weight, get stronger, excercise, get serious about nutrition, stretch your tendons & ligaments.
OLB have to be 6'0" or more & need to be about 200-215.....So wrok your butt off & get there....
