Questionin cover 2 what do all the linebackers have to do on the field. and in cover 4. be very specific. like describe in detail how fair do the likebackers have to drop back and how many yards and were do they need to cover on the field. its my first time ever playing linebacker and i dont get the lingo like (curl to flat) i dont know how far i need to dropback and at what angle.
AnswerCover 2 and 4 are two different things. There are many different variations of the Cover 2 (Tampa 2, etc.) but I will start with the basic Cover 2. The Mike LB (middle LB) has his head on a swivel and is looking for crossers over the middle. When you hear the Sam and Will (Strong and Weak LB's) going to "hook to curl, or "curl to flat" it means they are dropping to the zone where hook or curl routes take place to take those away. Curl to flat means they drop to the curl zone and then to the flats (area 5 yards off the LOS in fron of the corners). Sorry so long to get back to you, please contact me again. Coach B.
