Football Dad
Question
Hi,
My son will be a senior next year and has played football all his years in school but because of my concern and expectations regarding his grades I have pulled him out during the season to improve his grades which are most important to me and his mom.
He has aspirations of being a Tightend this year with hopes of playing in college. He has finally taken working out seriously and has been losing the weight to be a better faster player. Do you have any drills or advice I can use to help him out before the start of the season. He was previously playing on the "D" line but has not been able to impress the coaches enough to secure a starting position which has not discouraged him. He is 6'2 and has gone from 295 to 250 putting on lean muscle. Your help would be much appreciated. Thanks
Answer
Rule #1.....If you are serious about his grades, make a definitive signed contract w/ him & his ability to play based on them. When his first report card comes out & becomes unsatisfactory, then he is immediatley off the team, no questions asked. He cannot complain, because that's his part of the agreement. I totally support your & mom's decision.
I require my select baseball team to show me their cards, if they do not have adequate grades, they do not play for me in spring or summer. No arguments!!!!! Parents love it. I set very high standards on & off the field.
If he does play, find a local trainer, preferably from a local college or junior college. Make an appt. w/ him/her to get your son on a detailed program. I have never seen a trainer charge for consultation, especially from a local program. Pick their brains, ask for help....
Great question, good luck.....Andy
If this helped, please rate me positively, of not then let me know ASAP.....
