Knee down
Question
QUESTION: When ball carriers knee is down, is that not the spot for the ball. Reaching forward to gain more distance is not permissible(correct)On a regular play there is no plane that follows the ball to the ground is there? Thank you
ANSWER: No, The ball is placed on the line of scrimmage where the ball carriers knee has touched the ground. Except for a touchdown, where as long as the ball passes over the touchdown line, it is counted as a TD. You do not need to get your knees past the touchdown line.
-hope that helped, probobly didn't though!

QUESTION: thanks, when you say the ball crosses the goal line its a td. but not if the knee is down before the ball crosses, is that correct?
Answer
yes, correct. as an example, if you were running the ball off the 5 yard line into the end zone, but you were tackled and fell, your knee touches the ground, but while you fall the ball crosses the end zone. Since your knee is down, it would not be counted as a td. It's like a stoppage of play. doesnt matter where the ball ends up after your knee has hit the ground.
Confusing right?
