Football and Training

Question
Hi,

To simply put it, I love everything about football. I am in highschool right now as a Junior. My dream as a little kid was to play in the NFL and it still is as of today. My parents didn't let me play at first so my experience right now is:

`Didn't try out for freshman year
`Joined late for sophomore year and didn't play a single minute
`Started every game on Varsity and played till the end my junior year
`Working in the weightroom for my Senior year.

Height : 6'0
Weight : 225lbs (well in shape)

Maxes

Bench : 225 lbs
Incline : 225 lbs
Squat : 365 lbs
Clean : 305 lbs
40 Yard : 4.54
Vertical : 26 inches

I started my Junior year in football as a Center. I was very good, but I think if i ever want to play professionally I should play a different position. Do you think so? If so, what position?

My work ethic is known throughout the whole school. If people see me in the hallways they immediatly think that guy has so much commitment and LIVES in the weightroom. I always work hard. My coaches always talk about my skill because I was the most improved player. I went from a nobody in football and started my Junior year just from the weightroom. So I was wondering:

`What workouts could I do to improve my chances?
`What kind of training could I do to get Stronger, Faster, and be an amazing all around football player?
`What could I do to get scouters to look at me?

Answer
well alex, you remind me alot of myself. Im 6'4, 235.  I never liked football, i thought it was a dumb sport, my parents never let me play it.This year when i got into highschool, tryed out, and was the only kid out of 90 to be told to get my gear after the first tryout, i was in love. I played the entire time, every game. and i was told by the head coach at the end of the season that I'm the captain for next years team. It sounds like you've got the worth ethic to go far.

From the stats that youve given me (height, weight, maxes), your right, you wont go pro playing center. it sounds more like you should be playing Defensive End or Linebacker.

Theres no specific workouts someone can give you based on someone else. thats sounds confusing right? basicaly, no one knows what you need to work on better then your self. being a football player, your going to want to work on the following:

Legs
chest
core
hip flexor
shoulder
back
bi and tri cep.

It's not hard to find exercises for any of these. feel free to google or youtube them.

for speed:

run stairs for muscular strength and endurance. 1 stair at a time for acceleration and speed, 2 stairs at a time for enudurance and speed, and 3-6 stairs at a time for power. (yes, i know people that can jump 6 at a time.) for a stair work out, find a stair case with about 20-30 stairs. preferebly at your local hockey or football arena. run 20 times up, 1 stair at a time( 1 foot per stair) then 10 times up for 2 stairs at a time ( skip a stair)  then 5 3 steps at a time. then 5 up, 2 stairs at a time, 2 foot jumps. then 4 time sup, 1 foot 1 stair at a time hops (2 times up each leg) then finish it off with 10x up, 2 stairs, then 10 1 stair a time.

ladder or foot drills for foot work and speed

sprints ( 40-60m for acceleration and speed, 80-100m for endurance.) for a after work out speed boost, do 10 sprints, 15 sec rest inbetween.

suicides for muscle and cariovascular endurance. do 10-15, 30 sec rest in betweeen.

Theyres not much you can do to get noticed very well during  a game. if the scouts good, and knows what to look for, you should be set if you play a good game. you cant just be good, you have to be so good you stick out like a sore thumb. be it you get 20 TD's a game, 5 interceptions, or you never let the DE reach the QB, you've got to do your job out on the field and do it well.

good luck brother.
