How can I become a WR senior year?
Question
Dear Coach,
I have just finished my junior year in football, I was a tight-end this year and I was wanting to switch positions. I am 6'2" and 183 lbs. I don't know my 40 speed but I am pretty sure its under 5 seconds. Anyways I have always wanted to play wide receiver. I feel I could give much more at Receiver than I would give at TE. I want to know what I should work on and do over the off-season and how I should ask my coach to become a WR for what may be my last year playing football.
Thank you
Answer
well raj, I would reccomend working on your catching skills, running and stamina. you'll want to know what your routes and plays are aswell. too work on your catching, simply toss a football around, play other sports, simply anything that involves hand to eye co ordination will help you. as for running speed, to sprints, suicides, foot work drills, pylometrics, run stairs. stamina will come with running.
as for talking to your coach, He will be understanding and willing to listen and hear your opinion, and im sure he will put you as WR if thats what you really want, but depending your skill level, he may want to paly as you as a TE still. but in senior, theyre are bigger and better tight ends most likely, so i doubt you will be asked to stay in your postion. it sounds like you'd make a good WR. talk to your coach, tell him your opinio, be open about it and im sure you'll get the answer you want.
