Question
Hi, Iam a sophomore and I played running back for J.V. I want to play Varsity next year as a wide or slot receiver. The reason I want to play receiver is because our varsity team already has 3 very talented running backs. Iam 5'8 152 pounds. But im pretty strong and fast. What tips do you have for me,and wat should i do in offseason? I can catch ok but I Know i can get alot better.I also want to get bigger. Thanks in advance.!!
P.S. I also play track and i also want to be a better cornerback.
Answer
Hello,
A receiver needs to have good hands, run good routes and have the ability to block on running plays. A receiver needs to be able to get separation when running his routes. A receiver needs to be to recognize and find the openings in a zone defense. I would say start working on catching the ball with your hands. Work hard. Get with one of your QB's and run routes. It will help both of you. Also, work on making the first 3 to 5 steps of your route running, look the same. That way the defender will never really know what route you are running.
