runningback

Question
I'm a a freshman who just finished football and going into my sophomore year . i played defensive end and fullback and ran the ball quite well. the only thing i have trouble with is my speed and balance. the reason i am a fullback is because i lack those two qualities. i could find the hole cut juke spin truck but i just don't have that break out speed.i want to be a running back next year but i need help i want to know how to gain speed and balance. this will also help me at defensive end because when i go through the line i enter the back field unbalanced and get juked easy. any advice? bench: 245, squat: 415 ,hang clean : 200, 40 yard dash time : 5.4

Answer
Hello,

One thing I do know a little bit about is running the football. It would really help me if I saw you play to analyze your running style. A couple of things you can really look at is how far is your body lean when you are running, and how long is your stride in the holes. Good running backs have short choppy steps in the hole, a low center of gravity and good body control. If you a have a training parachute, that is good for speed. If you can find a hill to run in your area that is good for speed and lower body strength. Run sprints up the hill. You can also do two feet broad jumps up the hill for balance and strength.

If you have a agility ladder, that will also help you with your footwork and agility.
