Conditioning
Question
Hi coach, i'd appreciate any help you can give on training for the Tight End position. I'm 6"3 and about 200 lbs, I have good hand-eye coordination from sports like badminton but I struggle when it comes to real explosiveness and raw speed.
I've started using a jump rope but I am unsure about other exercises and specific weight drills to use to improve this. I would also like to improve my upper body strength to help with blocking and any technical help would be appreciated.
I live in the UK so good trainers are hard to come by but I'm willing to put in time and hard work so anything you could help with would be great.
Thanks for your time,
Alex.
Answer
Hello,
Bench pressing is good for upper body strength, also push-ups. Running sprints up a hill is good for leg strength and building speed. Also, do broad jumps up the hill, that helps with explosion. A tight-end is a combo of a possession receiver and a offensive tackle. You have to have good hands and run good routes, and you must be able to run and pass block when asked.
