Lineman or a linebacker?
Question
My question is if I should stay a Offensive/Defensive Lineman or become a Linebacker when I go to College? I've started as a Lineman on a Nine-man team for three years. My coach has always wanted me to be a Linebacker, but I wanted to stay a Lineman to help my friends out on the line. So I know line very well. The only thing is that for College, the Lineman are around 6'2" and 300lbs. While I'm at 6'0" and 230lbs. I can Bench 260lbs, Squat 335lbs, Clean 215lbs, and Deadlift 375lbs. So I'm fairly strong, my speed is getting much better with a new workout plan. But I just don't know what to do. Some people tell me to be a Lineman, while others tell me to be a Linebacker. As a Defensive Lineman I am more passive and try to read more, rather than bull-rush like my friends do.
Answer
Hello Jonathan,
This is a hard question for me to answer without having seen you or seen you play. However, I think it will be more about what they recruit you as and what the team needs. Also, your coaches will make a decision on where you should play.
But, also understand that switching positions requires a lot of work. If you are willing to put in the work and learn a new position then I say go for it.
