First time playing football, turning 16 in June
Question
Hi. So my gym coach happens to be the football coach for my high school, and he told me that i should try out for the football team (no cuts, but some dont get to play). I have been a track and field guy my whole middle school and high school career. I throw shot put and discus, ranked in both. I weigh 175 and i am 5'10. I clean/jerk Blues and snatch yellows (olympic styles). I am considering playing football because it is huge in my school, and it seems like a good experience. The last contact sport i have played was 7th grade wrestling, but im prepared for the brutalness of football. I am an avid JETS fan, and watch the game religiously. I understand the positions and some basic packages (well, what madden teaches me on the PS2).
What should i expect going into day one, and what advice would you give to a newbie like me? What lifting should i do, and what position do u think i should consider?
Answer
Hello,
Expect to be loss, it will take you a minute to grasp some of the concepts. Football is heavy on conditioning. Just keep lifting regularly, benches, curls and squats. If the coach asked you to play, I am pretty sure he already has a position in my mind for you to play.
New to Football.
