Help with receiever position

Question
QUESTION: Dear expert,
I play high school football at a school that is mostly run oriented
and pass maybe 5 times a game or less. My position is wide reciever and
I was wondering if there is still a way to get a scholarship for wr even if I
don't have alot of stats cuz of the no pass game we run. What are
somethings I could do to hopefully get one my senior year which is in 2
years since I'm only a sophmore. On my jv team we throw more than our
varsity does and me and 2 other people are competing for a starting spot
this year for wr I almost have that spot but still need help with a few things
that would guarantee me a starting spot. I can catch the ball really well
and I have really good fundamentals for wr and run blocking is well for me
to. Is there anything that I can do other than what I'm doing already that
might help out?

         Thanks for the help,
         Jared

ANSWER: Dear Jared,
Remember that catching the football is only part of being a receiver. A receiver is also asked to block on run plays. College coaches are looking at all aspects of the game. And some colleges football teams run the football 90% of the time. Those coaches are looking for receiver that can block.

However, if you want to become a better receiver try this work-out. This web-link is from our football history library.

QUESTION: So In order for me to get a scholarship to play somewhere big hopefully
somewhere like Miami or Texas I don't need to have major stats to get
looked at? Do I need to contact these coaches for colleges that I want to
play for and how early should I contact them? Is there things I can do to
publisize myself to get them to even notice me because most colleges
want top of the line players which I know I can play at a D1 school I just
need some help getting to my full potential and more. Would attending
college camps help? Such as the Michigan university camp which is
closest to me?

Answer
Dear Jared,
If you want to attend the Michigan University camp, go for it. It will not hurt your chances. One thing you can do is have your dad or mom talk to your football coach about playing on the college level. And have them talk to the Head Football Coach at Michigan University to see what he thinks. Have your parents talk to your high school football coach first. Ask him if you are breaking any college football rules by talking to the Michigan coach. Let me know what happens.
